The Trip

In April 2010, Harman and Navneet set off on a transformative 28-day bike trip through the untouched beauty of Uttarakhand. Exploring remote regions on their trusted bike, Niurka, they discovered Chopta, a hidden gem nestled amidst majestic Himalayan peaks. This experience deeply connected them to the mountains and inspired a vision.

Within a year, a visit to England’s picturesque lavender and herb farms sparked the idea of blending English permaculture with the rich biodiversity of Uttarakhand. This marked the beginning of Himalyan Naturals—a dream to create a sustainable herb farm rooted in the healing power of nature.

A Seed of Inspiration

While exploring the Mediterranean coast, Harman noticed how smaller trees thrived on hillsides unfit for traditional farming. Inspired, he brought this concept to the Himalayas, founding a 4.5-acre demo farm in Uttarakhand with two companions.

Driven by a mission to curb youth migration from the hills, they overcame logistical challenges and established the farm with family support, planting the roots of a sustainable future.

Rosemary's Triumph

The Beginning of Innovation

In 2016, while lavender failed, rosemary thrived, drawing attention to the farm. A visit from Italian volunteers, including Liza, inspired the team to process rosemary into products like herbal teas instead of selling it as raw produce.

By 2017, their first consignment of rosemary tisane and walnut oil reached India and Bhutan, marking the birth of their "Forest to Table" journey and the brand's innovative spirit.

Navigating Challenges: Triumphs from Bhutan to Oman

By 2018, Himalyan Naturals began gaining recognition, with orders for handmade soaps flowing in from Bhutan. In 2020, they secured their first major Middle Eastern order worth ₹20 lakhs from Oman. Despite the pandemic disrupting operations, the business rebounded in 2021 with shipments to Muscat, marking Harman’s full-time commitment to the venture.

By 2022, they expanded globally to Canada and entered the domestic market, transforming their demo farm into a thriving business. Today, Himalyan Naturals blends English permaculture with Himalayan heritage, offering sustainable, forest-derived products that make a difference.
