Deep ruby, tart and refreshing. Hibiscus sabdariffa is drunk across the world, from agua de jamaica to karkade, and it is one of the most studied herbal infusions of all.
What the research says
Hibiscus is rich in anthocyanins, the pigments behind its colour. A 2022 meta-analysis of 17 randomised trials found hibiscus was associated with meaningful improvements in blood pressure and LDL cholesterol, with larger effects in people whose readings were already high. We share this as research context, not as a claim for this tea.
Why this moment
Afternoon. Tart and cooling, best iced, when warmth and skin oil peak.
Ovulation. Light and refreshing for the days when skin and mood usually need least.
Perimenopause and beyond. As oestrogen falls, heart health becomes a bigger part of the midlife conversation. Hibiscus is the most researched of our infusions in that area.
How to brew
1 teaspoon in 200 ml of hot water for 5 minutes. For iced hibiscus, brew double strength and pour over ice with a little honey.
